The Logistics of Reuse: From Barriers to Solutions
Reuse sounds simple — until you try to actually do it at scale. Collection logistics, storage constraints, consumer behaviour, and system coordination all stand between good intentions and materials that stay in use.
This session brings together organizations that have done the hard work of making reuse happen — across textiles, building materials, food service, and digital platforms. Each presenter will walk through the real logistics challenges they faced and the practical solutions they built to overcome them.
You’ll hear from:
- Light House — about the process and experience in partnering with Habitat for Humanity ReStore to divert construction and demolition materials through salvage and resale, several
- District of Saanich — implementing reuse at a large community event
- Reusables .com — modernizing reusable food service systems at large institutions
- City of Victoria — driving the reuse economy with reusable foodware for dine-in services and supporting community-led reuse initiatives
- With a vignette by DreamStill — extending the life of textiles through an app connecting users to repair, reuse, and resale options
Whether you manage waste systems, advise municipalities, or are looking for models to bring home to your community, this session will leave you with concrete examples of what it takes to move reuse from concept to reality.
