Federal Plastics Registry Reporting Obligations Specific to Landfills, Haulers, and Recyclers

August 6 @ 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Free

– EVENT DETAILS –

This event has been quickly added to our summer events as we have heard from numerous members that many require more clarity on the reporting obligations for haulers, landfills, and recyclers (“service providers”) under the Federal Plastics Registry.

The Environment and Climate Change Canada team leading the Phase 2 guidance development for the Federal Plastics Registry will present and respond to questions on the specific reporting requirements and obligations of service providers.

Service providers start reporting in September 2026 on 2025 data, so let’s get on the same page together!

About the Federal Plastics Registry
Resin manufacturers and producers must report every year on the quantity and types of plastic packaging and products they:

  • Manufacture
  • Import
  • Place on the market

Industrial, commercial and institutional waste generators must report every year on the quantity of plastic packaging and products waste they generate at their facilities. Producers of plastic products and service providers are also required to report on the quantity of plastic.

Service providers in plastic management are those who manage plastics via the following activities:

  • Collecting or hauling
  • Arranging for direct reuse
  • Refurbishing
  • Repairing
  • Remanufacturing
  • Mechanical recycling
  • Chemical recycling
  • Processing into chemicals, including fuels
  • Composting
  • Incineration with energy recovery
  • Incineration for industrial processes
  • Incineration without energy recovery
  • Landfilling

Landfilling (and all other service provider activities) have been included from the start in the Notice with respect to reporting of plastic resins and certain plastic products for the Federal Plastics Registry for 2024, 2025 and 2026 published in April 2024 which provides the basis for the Registry.
