Sandy Sigmund, Vice President Development & Chief Marketing Officer, Encorp

ABOUT...

Sandy Sigmund is the Vice President Development & Chief Marketing Officer of Encorp Pacific Canada, she has been a senior executive with Encorp since its inception in 1995 and has led the Marketing, Communications and program development efforts. Prior to Encorp, her career included managing retail toy chain and managing sales and merchandising as the Marketing Manager for a National Toy Retailer. Sandy is a BCIT graduate in marketing and business administration and holds a certification from the Institute of Corporate Directors, UBC in Governance for Directors of Not-for-Profit Organizations. She has been a member of the RCBC board serving on the governance and policy committees. Sandy also sat on the Board of Directors of the Burnaby Board of Trade, serving as Chair of the membership committee and the Environmental Sustainability Committee. Most recently Sandy was elected as President of the Board of Directors of the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society

Baljit Lalli, Vice President, Corporate Communications & Stakeholder Relations

ABOUT...

Baljit Lalli is the Vice President of Corporate Communications and Stakeholder Relations at Encorp Pacific Canada (Return-It). Bal oversees the organization’s stakeholder relations, corporate communications, and customer relations strategy. Bal also leads the development and ongoing implementation of the organization’s social purpose which is to foster a world where nothing is waste.
Prior to Return-It, Bal worked in the beverage and natural resources sector creating and delivering a wide range of innovative initiatives that protect and enhance corporate and product reputations. Bal has extensive experience in advancing stakeholder partnerships and leading media relations, corporate communications, crisis communications, and global rebranding initiatives.
Bal has a Bachelor of Applied Sciences, Honors Program from Simon Fraser University and Executive Certificate in General Management from the University of British Columbia.

Sam Baker, Western Canada Director, Post-Collection and Material Regeneration, Recycle BC

ABOUT...

Sam Baker (Western Canada Director, Post-Collection and Material Regeneration): For the last 5 years, Sam has been with Recycle BC where he oversees the post-collection network responsible for receiving, reporting, and responsibly recycling all material within the Recycle BC extended producer responsibility (EPR) program for packaging and paper products. In this role, Sam is responsible for identifying new and innovative approaches to responsible recycling and coordinating logistics amongst multiple partners and industries. Sam excels at navigating complex problems and conducts his work with precision. Sam holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University and an MBA in International Business form Marquette University, prior to working at Recycle BC, Sam worked in the mining industry managing technical service teams and maintenance and repair contracts for large mining equipment.

Dr. Rishi Gupta, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Victoria

ABOUT...

Dr. Rishi Gupta is a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Victoria (UVic). He leads the Facility for Innovative Materials and Infrastructure Monitoring (FIMIM) at UVic. He received both a masters and a PhD in Civil Engineering from UBC. His areas of interest include development of sustainable construction technologies, structural health monitoring, and non-destructive evaluation. He has more than 20 years of combined academic and industry experience.
Rishi is a Fellow of Engineers Canada, recipient of UVic’s REACH award and recipient of the teaching excellence award from EGBC. Rishi is also the immediate past Chair of the international affairs committee of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering.

30 years of global experience, including 19 years with BP plc, 5 years with Husky Energy and 2 years as Managing Director with Goldman Sachs. Former VP Downstream for MEG and Chief Commercial Officer at the Friesen Group of Companies. Holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree from Edinburgh University, MBA degree with Distinction from the Edinburgh Business School and is a Chartered Engineer (UK).
