SUMMARY:Collaborative Learning Session: Development Cost Charges for SW Facilities
DESCRIPTION:– DETAILS –\nAnother great CWMA forum to help our members get baseline knowledge on an emerging topic or area of interest. \nDevelopment Cost Charges for Solid Waste and Recycling Facilities\n\n\nMunicipalities and regional districts levy development cost charges on new development to pay for new or expanded infrastructure necessary to adequately service the demands of that new development including  sewer\, water\, drainage\, parks\, roads\, fire protection facilities\, police facilities and\, added in late 2024\, solid waste and recycling facilities. DCCs are governed by provincial legislation. \n\nWith the recently-published Best Practices Document\, a number of members reached out eager to learn more and to see if we can find examples of those who have already completed work in this area and also to have the Ministry available to answer questions… wishes really do come true: \n\nWe will start with a primer on DCC’s (the basics) and a review of the work being undertaken by the District of Squamish with Watson & Associates Economists Ltd.\nThen the Regional District of Nanaimo will present and share their work on SW DCCs\nWe also warmly welcome a representative from Local Government Finance\, Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs who will be on hand to respond to questions/speak to the DCC legislation and bylaw drafting.\n\nNOTE: If you are implementing SW into your DCC bylaw\, please consider sharing a few minutes of your work for all to learn from. \n\n– COST –\nThere is no cost for this event with thanks to the Regional District membership fees that help support event’s like this for everyone. Please consider membership with CWMA. Every organizational member helps us continue to respond to your needs with forums that help everyone learn and lead. \n\n– AGENDA –\nVirtual Doors Open at 12:50 PM for visiting and a/v check\n1:00 PM — Welcome Everyone / Acknowledgments\n1:05 PM — Primer on DCC’s / District of Squamish Work in this area\n1:20 PM — Regional District of Nanaimo Presentation SW DCC’s\n1:35 PM — Q&A / Roundtable Discussion / Other shares\n2:14 PM — Farewell and Next Steps \n\n– VIRTUAL NOTES –\nCWMA uses the Zoom Platform for events.
