CWMA 2021 Conference

Educator’s & Communicator’s Roundtable

October 20, 2021 | 10:30 am to 12:30 pm

One of the hallmarks of the CWMA Conference are our popular roundtables: informative discussions for specific groups within our industry. Each year we invite conference delegates and cast the invitation out to a wider group who would be interested in taking part — opening our doors to ensure everyone has can learn, discuss, and network.

*Meet your fellow colleagues!
*Focussed topic this year: Single use plastic item bans.
Take in a brief review of new Provincial amendments that allow local governments to institute bans on plastic bags and certain single-use plastics without provincial approval.  And, hear from:
  • Paul McDonald, Government of Ireland
Recently banned plastic cutlery, plates, stir sticks, chopsticks, straws, cotton bud sticks, expanded polystyrene food/beverage containers and all oxo-degradable plastic products.
  • Brent Reems, District of Saanich
implemented a single use plastic bag ban this August.
  • Followed by: Breakout into small groups to trouble-shoot current challenges you’re facing and to glean more resources and ideas from your fantastic peers.

 Working Agenda

10:30 – 10:50 am ~ Introductions – meet your colleagues

10:50 – 11:20 am ~ Paul McDonald presentation and q&a

11:25 – 11:55 am ~ Saanich presentation and q&a

11:55 am – Noon  ~ Quick Break

Noon – 12:30 pm | Small group discussion and report highlights from group discussions

*Food: The event is different from prior years with our food options reduced to balance the potential of a costly pivot to a fully virtual event.
